Chapter one

The boy who wanted to fly, but walked home instead.

The young man’s deep blue hair lifted off of his pillow slowly, covered in sweat and fear, the visions that passed through his mind, images and emotions he wish he could have forgotten after  his discharge from the air force. A jet plane, just cracking through the sound barrier, a training exercise he had gone through a hundred times. Then a click, and he was surrounded by brilliant terrible red and yellow fire.

This was the first time Matthew had been home since he was in the hospital. A metal knee cap, and a prosthetic left arm were just two of the fake things covering his body, false tissue and stitches seemed to be laid out in random painful order upon his skin.

He propped himself up onto his crutches, and slowly wobbled down the hall way, he felt powerless and weak. Every single step he took to balance himself on the steel crutches filled his legs with extreme pain, he thought of how incredibly useless the crutches were, and even if he was using them right.  He entered the bathroom and leaned himself against the sink counter, as he turned on the light he let the crutches fall behind him, he shut the door and stared into the mirror.

His deep blue eyes gazed into themselves. They were like sapphire but they were not a quality that helped him make friends in the military at all, nor was his hair. It was not dyed although many belied it was. No one in his entire family had the same color of hair, or the same eye color. His older brother would joke that he was found under a bridge, or that he was adopted by a circus trader. Matthew knew it was all in good fun, he had always had a clever sense of humor and acceptance, he knew he was odd, while every man in his family had served in the marines; he decided to join the air force. He thought that it was the “safest” and most “minimal fighting contact” job in the military. And with the draft being Re-established in America, and New York being the hot spot for recruiters, Matt knew it was either, join the army and get killed in the Africa diamond war, or join the air force and be on an Air Craft Carrier and wait for your name to be called.

Matt splashed the cold water on his face, its cool crisp feel comforted him and made him feel sleepy, and the cold water took away his nightmare about the hot fire. He then looked back into the mirror, the water dripped off of his chin, as he heard the soothing trickle of water colliding with water he began to feel hypnotized by it, like it was a lullaby putting him to sleep. But then he heard another noise, this one was like a buzzing, a strange noise that he had not heard in a long time, not since his family had begun using florescent bulbs. A static noise coming from the light above him, as he looked at it, it began to flicker on and off, as Matt turned to pick up his crutches so he could get back to his room while the light still worked, he leaped in terror filling his leg with terrible pain as he saw a man in a black leather coat standing behind him, his arms were crossed and he was leaned against the wall, his skin was a pale blue and his eyes were closed.

Matt had never seen this man before; he then held his crutch like it was a weapon saying.

“Who are you? Why are you in my house?” hi tried to seem un phased by the man, but the fear was obvious, Matt knew if this man wanted to attack him right now he would be easily beaten.

Then with a sigh the man opened his eyes which were solid blue, no pupil, no iris a solid light blue color. He then raised his right hand to his mid section and quickly waved it to the left, as he did the crutch that Matt had an extremely firm fearful grip on flew out of his hand and busted out through the bathroom window. The blue coloring of the man’s eyes then faded away and the iris and pupil of his eyes was visible now.

“Listen kid, can you just come with me quietly?” he asked in a scratchy mellow voice, as if he was bored and tired. He then raised his hand as if it were a simple request. Matt’s father then came out of the master bedroom and could see the man and Matt. Once he could see Matt leaning and staring at the man in fear he shouted,

“HEY! Who the hell are you and why the f**k are you in my house?!”  as his father began to march toward them the man’s eyes filled with blue again and his lifted his left hand towards Matt’s dad as if sighing for him to stop.

“GET AWAY FROM MY SON!” shouted his father getting closer, and then the man smiled from ear to ear looking at Matt saying.

“You are the cause of this.” As he did a giant bolt of static electricity flew out of the man’s hand, it cut straight through Matt’s father, his mother was coming out of the room, as she did it struck her as well cutting her head clean off of her neck. Horror filled Matthew’s eyes as he watched his father fall to the ground with a gaping hole in his chest, and his mother body fall, followed by her head.

“Mom...Dad...” was all Matt said as the man grabbed him by the color of his white t-shirt, lifted him into the air and said,

“Let’s see how much pain a chosen child can take before he breaks!”His words were filled with more energy and curiosity than before. The man then threw Matt straight through the shower wall and out through the brick outside wall into the front yard, He landed with a tremendous amount of pain surging through his entire body. He lay on the green grass ground motionless, not dead but filled with so much pain that he could barely move at all. All he could do was watch as the man jumped through the hole in the wall and land on the ground directly in front of him as if it were a small leap. Suddenly the wind began to pick up, clouds filled the sky, lightning and thunder filled the black clouds with light and sound. The man stared at Matt with a strange kind of humorous disgust and loathing.

Rain soon began to fall, with the last bit of matt’s energy he closed his eyes ready and waiting for the man to end his life… suddenly, the wind became so violent that Matt’s  prosthetic  arm lifted up into the air, then the sound of feet landing on the sidewalk  in front of the house. As matt slowly opened his pain tear filled eye’s he could see a green haired man in a brown tattered trench coat was holding the bald man up in the air by his neck. The bald man was gritting his teeth in what seemed like frustration and irritation.

“Matthew, do not worry. My name is Teru Kaneko, get to a safe spot.” Said the man with a calm voice. But Matt was in so much pain he could not respond; instead he just laid there in his crater with tears slowly falling down both of his cheeks.

Teru then dropped the bald man to the ground, as the man stood Teru took a fighting stance. Matt could now see a Green and Black tail, it seemed to wave to the left and right weightless, Matt’s eyes widened as he noticed that this tail was attached to Teru’s body.

“Teru Kaneko, this is the one who will guide the chosen one with the winds?” taunted the bald man eagerly. Teru then straightened his back, as he did two bulges began to move around making his trench coat rip, it then completely tore in half only hanging on by the sleeves, and two large wings sprouted out, they didn’t seem to appear as angel wings, more like those of an eagle, or large bird. As they stretched out the lightning in the sky revealed that the white wings were covered in blood, they popped like finger bones as he stretched them farther.

“It appears like that doesn’t it? Daemon of focused lightning.” Answered Teru, as he flexed his wings more, awaiting the attack from the bald man, long spikes began to jut out from the broad side of his tail, Matt could not believe what he was seeing. For a moment Matt believed that he was having a strange dream, but the immense pain flowing through his body reassured him that this was all too real.

“Why so formal? Why not just call me Statix, or maybe even, Brother like you used to… you disgusting abomination!” Shouted the bald man, now recognized as Statix. He seemed to enjoy his insult as he sprayed the words at Teru in anger.

Statix quickly charged at Teru whit strands of what looked like electricity flowing around him, the purple glow burned Matt’s retinas as he watched the fight from his crater. Teru jumped avoiding randomly shot blasts of energy thrown at him, his wings would wave to his sides elevating him higher making it seem like he was almost flying.

“HA! With broken wings you have no hope of escaping me! This will now be finished!” Shouted Statix as he quickly jumped in the air, as he began to fall back to the earth he struck the ground with his fist, thus a large blast of energy and electricity emitted from the place where his fist had landed. As the electricity reached Matt it was absorbed by a wall of earth that seemed to magically lift around him like a barrier.

“Statix, you know of the favor Zenfone has given him, why are you hear?” asked a man walking from far up the street, he had spiky light brown hair, tan skin with no shirt, black leather pants and no shoes, he looked evil in Matt’s eyes. Teru was nowhere to be seen from were Matt laid; in his mind he could see Teru dead just as his parents were.

“Byron Laderoute, spirit of earth and metal. I am truly honored to make your acquaintance. I know of the Ultimate favor, but the favor only applies for trying to kill the chosen one, I am not here to do so.” Explained Statix.

“Then why are you here?!” Shouted Byron almost as if he was ordering him to answer. Statix then began to burst out laughing, he walked toward Byron boldly, and he then popped his neck saying,

“If you are going to kick my a*s pleas do so quickly, I have a busy schedule, and I cannot keep stopping for every spirit who wants to defend him.” He then took another fighting pose.

“you know none of your abilities except for hand to hand combat would do a thing to me, and based on your stature and body build, that wouldn’t do much either.”  Said Byron mockingly.

Statix then quickly ran at Byron in anger and rage, as he got very close Byron held out his arm, right as Statix was a foot in front of him Byron grabbed his face lifting him up, then tossing him to the ground, as he did large thorns of concrete emerged from the ground. Matt could barely watch as the blood stained the ground around them.

“Very intriguing… it seems you are far more brutal than your predecessors.  I was always tolled Earth spirits were gentle and pacifist.” Said Statix as he lay on his bed of stone thorns, he was slowly sliding down them, his wounds growing larger and wider.

“I know this won’t kill you, but it will at least make your puppeteer pull you back for a recovery. Tell him that if he breaks the favor then he will be trained properly; we all know he wouldn’t want that now would he? Go now before I decide to actually kill you.”  Said Byron as he stepped on Statix’s chest forcing him down the thorns more.

“Very well earth spirit, I shall leave you with one last thought. Your mole, the spirit of love, she is the reason I was here tonight. Zenfone wanted me to relay this message to Markos, but he wasn’t here, pity. It was fun to toss around your last hope though, a real joy watching him flail about like a mortal worm. I am sure next time I fight him it will be much more difficult.” Said Statix as if the thorns did not hurt him at all, he then slowly began to blur, as if he was coming out of focus, and soon we was gone, nothing but the thorns and the blood was left behind.

Byron stood staring at the thorns of stone for a short time; he appeared to be lost in thought. It was at this point that Matt had realized that his hands seemed like they were made of granite stone, as well as his feet.  Byron then walked over to were Matt lay.

“Matthew? Are you hurt? Can you hear me?” he asked squatting down to get closer to Matt. His eyes were a deep purple color, and his face was littered with scars.

“Why…What is happening?” asked matt as his vision began to blur. He then lost consciousness and fell into a deep sleep.  Byron then stood and looked up to the sky, the clouds began to clear slowly, and then a beam of light shot down from space.  Then a door appeared in front of Byron, he lifted Matt up and walked to the door. As he opened it everything around them disappeared, he slowly began to walk through it as he did the scenery began to blur and mix like a paint tray being mixed together.

“Looks like we are walking from here kid.” Said Byron looking at Matt.

They then disappeared from the world, all that remained was the wreckage of Matt’s home and the thorns were Byron was torturing Statix. Nothing more, they were gone from reality.

Maybe I was wrong in my previous review reguarding the details. It seems to be your writing style and it's working well with this chapter. Can I ask if we get to know just how far down hill or up hill the world has come in the reality you're creating? You have a few grammatical issues, color should be collar for instance, but all in all I'm enjoying this so far.

Very cool write. The slow but subtle introduction of the characters through action with small tinges of description remind my of anime.
