Never look Back

Never look Back

A Poem by Aradie Rain
"

Memories from long ago..

"

I can see her standing there

The small disheveled girl

In her high heels and short skirt

She looks around, looking for help.

She has a pack on her shoulder

and a bus ticket in her hand

Ready to leave this place of pain.

She looks up, startled,

as a police car pulls up next to her.

She moves backward and starts to run

but it is too late, they have caught her.

They open the back door of the car

and she steps in with no resistance.

They are taking her back home.

I follow her down the street

two lefts and a right,

to an old half abandoned house

The police knock on the door

where a drunk man answers.

He gets the girl and takes her inside.

Hours pass and the girl reappears

this time she trusts no car on the road

She will not make the same mistake twice

Dressed in warm clothes and tennis shoes

she walks and walks till she is out of her small town

She does not think of looking back,

Hardly dares to breathe let alone

take her eyes off her future,

afraid it will disapear in an instant.

She runs as if

the devil himself were chasing her

She runs as she leaves behind

Hungar and abuse

She runs as she leaves behind

all the pain and hurt

She runs toward the unknown

Hoping for a better future

She runs

and she never looks back
