Do You Remember?

Do You Remember?

A Poem by Ice Penada

Do you remember the first time we saw each other

Not as acquaintances who just pass by one another

But as two individuals who have been talking late at night

Friends or more than that who are hoping it'll end up right

Do you remember that rainy day when you texted me

That if I need an umbrella, you have one for free

We met in the middle of the crowd but it was as if we're alone

Everything became a blur; we were on a world of our own

Do you remember the night you decided to confess?

I was dumbfounded; I could not contain my happiness

How can a boy I've been dreaming of actually like me back?

How can he oversee all the little things I lack?

Do you remember the night you rode with me to my station?

I saw you crossing the street, walking to my direction

And even though going with me will take you far

You didn't even hesitate to get in the car

Do you remember what happened as we wait for other passengers?

My heartbeat went crazy when you interlinked our fingers

How scared I was just by the thought that this is something temporary

But I shrugged it off because the only thing I need is right beside me

Do you remember our first fight, our first misunderstanding?

You went out with your family and lied about not drinking

Do you remember when you saw me with some other guys?

You thought I forgot about you, good thing it all ended up nice

Do you remember when you asked me how much I love you?

I made you a poem because that's how I express something true

Do you remember when I woke up crying and texted you at 3 AM?

I dreamed that you've let go of me and laughed along with them

Do you remember the promises and all the plans we had?

You said once we are old enough, you'll ask my hand from my dad

You said you'll do the dishes, the laundry, and make everything neat

You said you'll always cook for me because I don't really like to eat

Do you remember the night you didn't call to say goodnight?

We didn't talk the whole day because we were having a fight

When the phone rang, lit up, and I finally read your name

I cried and was relieved, realized I'll never be the same

Do you remember when you decided to choose the easy way?

You said we should just stay as friends so everything will be okay

But you're wrong, Babe, that statement broke my heart

Because it means you've given up when we haven't even start

Do you remember me? Do you remember us?

Do you remember the love? Do you remember the trust?

Do you remember how I looked into your eyes?

Do you remember how I got swept by your lies?
