Just a Little Girl

Just a Little Girl

A Poem by Shalini Dinesh

Just a little girl
With butterflies in dreams
Soaring high with wide open wings
Far and wide
Aimless, just far and wide

Fly, little girl, fly so free
Catch the stars, let them see
Rise from the dark, find your way
High and above, brighter today

Little did she see
The thorn poking out
From the flower she sniffed so close, so deep
Close and deep
Oh, so close and deep

With tampered wings
She was pulled down, down into the deep
As the darkness spread
Heavy and low
Just plain heavy and low

Fly, little girl, fly so free
Catch the stars, let them see
Rise from the dark, find your way
High and above, brighter today

Dreams dipped and sank
Beneath the sea, right before her eyes
To the bottom they fell
Down and deep
Just drowning, down and deep

Heavy was her heart
Pale were her eyes
The last tear fell; there were no more to cry
She began to see
Oh, she began to see

No more strings
Not even an anchor to pull
Nothing could stop her as she rose
High and above
Soaring high and above

Fly, little girl, rise so free
Own the stars, let them see
Wings once broken now blaze with light
High and above, into the night

She flew high
Wings spread wide
Colors of dreams began to fill
Solid and bold
Oh, so solid and bold
