How far I've Come

Days flew by, and so did the years,
The miles I’ve crossed
For the journey was long,
But I kept myself strong.
Little did I realize
How far I have come!

Hurdles many, too many to say,
Less laughter, or did I forget?
I built my ladder one rung at a time,
Gaining wisdom from my own failures.
Little did I realize
How far I have come!

Success is sweet, yet miles remain,
Goals vast, but I laid them straight.
A daughter, wife, friend, and mom
Juggling roles, facing trials.
Little did I realize
How far I have come!

Looking back, I pause to see,
I pause to pat the broken me.
The woman in the mirror
Finally, I realize
I have come far,
Far enough to take pride,
Far enough in the work I’ve done,
Far enough to stand on my own
To become the one
I never knew I always wanted to be.

Time flies, aging takes hold, roles get fulfilled or not, then we regain the sense of self and time, of our aging process. We celebrate certain things, lament other ones.

Life is as you say, not necessarily for the Self.. but.. there has to be a time when being what some would call selfishness is what makes you happily whole. Smiling for you!
