This is so sad sweet Rose and I know, because I know this feeling well. Wanting to say something, express feelings but holding back for reasons unknown...longing for that dance and hoping it is not the last. Your poem has taken me to a grassy spot along side of a still lake at night with a three quarter moon glistneing on the water. I can hear the music, I want to dance, but don't. Very sad indeed.
I had this dance when I was 29 - it was a bittersweet moment when I realised I had loved this person for a long time - unfortunately it was too late as he had married four years previously - who knows if he ever felt the same and I missed out - perhaps that's why I found this poem so hauntingly beautiful and touching x

just a dance apart"
Funny how we regret what we didn't do. A beautiful poem. I have a few people I wished I asked for a slow dance and held on. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

Thank you my friend for taking time to read and for always leaving me a review.. xo Rose
This speaks to me, Rose! I guess all of us have one lost love that haunts us in this way - the few words left unsaid, a desire to reach out not acted on, a dance not shared... sigh...
The title says it all doesn't it? Well crafted, my friend!
Oh wow Rose, that ending id just so sad and makes me want to push these two people together. Your words are always so well chosen and perfect for each poem and ou create imagery that really pulls the reader in.
Beautifully penned. I love your writing!

The pain of what could have been, or the one that got away...many times in my life have I lamented the introversion that prohibited me from learning to dance...a sad but evocatively beautiful piece...well-penned work Rosebud :)
