All's Fair (or is it?)

All's Fair (or is it?)

A Poem by shallimarRose
"

I went to the Fair last night and this morning I pulled this old poem up that I wrote one year.. LOL

"

Yesterday I was at the fair...This morning I pulled out this rhyme i wrote a few years back...

We garb our country western clothes

we grab our cowboy hats

I wore my brand new cowgirl boots

I wished I had worn flats

$7.00 dollars to park you say?

ok, well I'm not bitin'

so off we go, a two block walk

already I feel my boots tighten

The kids are all screaming,

"What can we go on first"

but we're not even there yet,

so I hold back my curse

finally we reach it

the County Fair gate

I might have known

it's a 1/2 hour wait

we stand there with pride

for we did the right thing

bought the wristbands ahead

so less money I'll spring

we walk into the crowd

and one kid is missing

"already" I said

as I hear my boots hissing

I grab one by the collar

 2 others in tow

down the path we walk

to the rodeo show

the grandstands are full

we have to walk to the top

if I don't sit down soon

my blisters will pop

five minutes to rest

then, "I gotta go pee"

"You're kidding" I said

but then she’s only three

so back down I walk

from the bottomless bleachers

the restrooms I found

did not have many features

finally it's starting

I can rest for a bit

but the bulls are below us

and the place smells like ****

I put my feet up

while the broncos were busting

closed my eyes for a minute

guess I was too trusting

I wake with a start

as I hear the crowd roar

the twelve year old gone

I can't take any more

I find him in line

concession for coke

five bucks for a soda?

this must be a joke

4 bottles of water

that's what I will buy

and 3 corndogs

from the corndog guy

$35.00 dollars please,

he says with a smile

for three dogs and some water?

these prices are vile

as we walk by the food stands

my boots have me stumbling

funnel cake smells so good

and my tummy starts rumbling

my feet are killing me,

they can't take this abuse

so we sit near the cake stand

a valid excuse??

Then off to the rides

it's so loud I can't think

they wanna go on them all

but I need a drink

by now I have my boots in hand,

I can't wait to get home and shower

I look at my watch

and to my dismay

I've only been here for an hour!

i love this...but for me it is quite a statement on concessions...what a con.

going to the movies is the same...6.50 for the show around here...but the concessions will cost 20...

a bottled water is 3.50----popcorn close to ten bucks now...ridiculous.

i like the journey you took us on here, and your description...quite vivid...you told a story and had us there.

Your ABCB rhyme is flawless and the rhythm is perfection. The honesty of your poem "I wore my brand new cowgirl boots - I wished I had worn flats" is absolutely delightful. Written tongue firmly planted in cheek and so much fun to read. I can absolutely relate to so many of the incidents you speak of in this one. Loved it! Lydi**
