Silhouette in Shackles

Possessiveness, bondage, shadows, self esteem, freedom, shallimarRose, poetry

She is but a shadow,

She makes no move alone;

A silhouette in shackles,

she dare not leave her home...

 

If I could see beyond her smile

what would her sad eyes tell?

I watch her drift from room to room,

I know those rooms too well....

 

Suddenly she's looking back,

she sees me pass her by.

I know if she could budge the door,

that silhouette would fly....

 

She is but a silhouette,

he's the keeper of the key.

That silhouette in shackles,

in the mirror......only me....

I think at times we all feel like this, trapped somewhere within ourselves, feeling there is no way out. Just hoping that door opens so we can flee the confines of our own doing. Very nicely down Rose, nice meter and rhyme.

Thank you Jack.. I can remember thirteen years ago when I wrote this.. In my head it is the reflection in the mirror but was actually written for a friend of mine who was with a very possessive partner. Rose

Reads as Agoraphobia, the anxiety is palpable on the page. Being self imprisoned has to be the worst scenario, you can't get away from the feeling of fear when it invades so relentlessly that you can't move out of the safety of your own home. Aptly written shallimar!

OCD runs in my family.. My sister and middle daughter have it pretty bad. What you mention here is how I imagine they feel. Ty for reading Freida..
