A Lonely Heart.

A Lonely Heart.

A Poem by Ken Baldwin

we hurt each other in atrocious ways,

our pain severed our connection.

you found another that could love you better,

and i was left holding a raging heart.

you pleaded for my return to you,

as nothing more than friend.

my anger didn't stay with me long,

but i came back to you scarred.

my love is a leaky bucket that never empties,

you cannot return my desire so i drip tears.

salt stained cheeks that burn,

burn like my heart does for you.

can't have you the way i want,

can't have you the way i need.

waiting for something to change,

bleeding, unwilling to leave your side.

the good days outweigh the bad,

the bad blocking memories of the good.

wanting to be stronger and not feel like this,

not weak and defenseless in my loneliness.

the sadness that comes into my heart,

when i see your words to each other.

wanting to run and hide from it,

but unable to keep from looking.

waiting to feel something better, like hope,

as i lay here, in bed, alone, in misery.
