A Thought, A Smile

A Thought, A Smile

A Poem by Ken Baldwin
"

New love.

"
I thought of you and smiled,
Rejoicing at our connection,
Am I at peace with myself,
And with the world surrounding?

Keeping the hurry buried,
Savoring the newness,
Glowing coals keeping me warm,
Warm in the cold still night.

I'm amazed that you like me,
Waiting for the other shoe,
Knowing I will flinch at nothing,
Already packed and prepared to bolt.

A breath, to calm my nerves,
I don't want to hurt you,
You don't want to hurt me,
An unspoken, unpromised truth.

Even if we doesn't last,
We have something beautiful,
A beauty that will endure,
Something to cherish forever.

I have hope in the future,
Uncertain as it may be,
I will be happy d****t,
And strive to make you happy too,
For whatever time we have together.

A thought,
A smile,
Joy,
At peace.
