The Boy I Once Knew

The Boy I Once Knew

A Poem by Shafaz

I once knew a boy who had no eyes

His light brown orbs were his sisters’.

A sister dead with a hole in her heart

Would not let go of his sight.

She whispered sweet nothings into his soul

Deluding him with dreams of tomorrow.

Stories of freedom,

Stories of life,

Stories of penance were sung.

Cobwebs were weaved through the cracks in his mind

As eyes that were not his grew bright.

I once knew a boy who had eyes.

In them his sister lived.

He saw what she saw,

He thought what she thought

His eyes began to rot

And on the day they were nothing but holes

Out his sister crawled.

The boy I once knew is gone.
