The Heavy HeartA Poem by Tim AllisonBurdened by cares of day to day life, the heavy heart fights its battles with eyes set only on the goal. Follow the heavy heart on it's journey, starting on a lonely road, leading to a hill far away, and ending on a distant heavenly shore.
The heavy heart beats strongest, Strengthened by its task. It feeds on hope and promise, With courage held steadfast. The heavy heart beats longest. It works throughout the night. It never knows a moment When rest lies within sight. The heavy heart, though burdened, Determined, pressing through, Can sometimes be so strong That it breaks itself in two. A heart so strong it breaks. Just how can it be so? That in its strength abundant Still does weakness know? Though wrought in two, this heart Its charge surrenders not. Through battles hot and heavy, Its blows are justly fought.
Pressing harder, stopping not. Delving 'cross the throes. This heavy heart, though broken, Still no relenting knows. Until at last the weary heart Can lay its burdens down, And trade them at the cross For a simple robe and crown. Its broken parts surrendered, Placed in the Master's hands, Are rightly pieced together And made whole once again. Now bathed in peace and happiness, Its sorrows swept away, The heavy heart—now lightened— Walks a different way. When finally setting foot Upon that distant shore, The heart beholds a city That stands forever more. Walking through the streets, Meeting friends long lost, The heart that once was heavy Is glad Christ paid the cost. Is your heart now heavy, friend? Your troubles armed with sword? Just climb the hill at Calvary And give them to the Lord.
