The Soldier

The Soldier

A Poem by Shadowsong

You look at me and wonder why
I do this every day.
The sweat, the tears, the blood and pain,
The price that I must pay.

You look at me and think I'm mad
To willingly choose this life.
How can I bear the fear and stress,
the heartache and the strife?

You look at me and you don't see
The pride I feel within.
The satisfaction hard work brings,
The fights 'gainst fear I win.

To serve my country is my job
Though it's no easy deed,
This is the path I choose to walk,
This is the life I lead.

It really shows how much soldiers go through to serve their country.

I LOVED THIS! Hardly ever do people write about the perspective of the soldier. People don't seem to understand the pride that comes with serving ones country they only see what the TV shows them and they make their own judgment calls without knowing how the one serving feels. Great write.
