16: Photo Date

Tom finally gets to have a date with Darcy but Gavin tries to stir up trouble when they are at the Bronson Caves.

Lakeside High: First Floor Hallways

Tom and Darcy venture around the school taking pictures for their Photo class.

Tom: So we’re making a surrealistic collage of photos?

Darcy: Yep.

Tom: How are we suppose to do that?

Darcy: For starters we need pictures.

Tom: Yeah but of what?

Darcy: Anything, weren’t you listening?

Darcy takes the camera from Tom and speeds off.

Tom: Hey!

Tom and Darcy enjoy a montage of photography taking pictures for their project and running into friends along the way. Tom and Darcy enter the library after a while.

Lakeside High: Library

Darcy: Your turn.

Tom(smile): Finally.

Tom aims the camera around scoping out what to take a picture of. Tom sees Andrew in a book isle.

Tom: Hey Andy’s here.

Darcy: Let’s go ask him to be in the picture.

Tom: No Darcy, wait.

Too late, Darcy starts off to Andrew and makes contact. Andrew becomes aware of Tom’s presence with the camera. Tom joins Andrew and Darcy.

Darcy: Bad news Tom. Andy doesn’t want to be in the picture.

Tom: Yeah, he’s camera phobic.

Andrew: There’s no such thing as camera phobia.

Tom: But you’re afraid of cameras. Saying it doesn’t exist is a sign.

Andrew: I just hate having my picture taken.

Tom holds up the camera in front of Andrew. Andrew hides behind Darcy.

Tom: Told ya so.

Darcy: Tom the period is about to end.

Tom: We’re not finished yet. Thanks Andy.

Andrew: It’s not my fault.

Darcy: Tomorrow’s Saturday. Let’s go to the Bronson Caves and finish taking out photos.

Tom: Alright.

Tom’s House: Kitchen- Night

Daisy: So you’re going on a date with Darcy?

Tom: Mom it’s not a date. We’re just working on the project together.

The phone rings. Tom looks at the caller-id and sees its Michael. Tom puts the phone on speaker.

Tom: Hey Mike, what’s up?

Phone(Michael W.): Dude, why didn’t you tell me you had a date with Darcy?

Daisy: Told you so.

Phone(Michael W.): Oh hi misses C. Did you put the phone on speaker?

Tom: Yes and it’s not a date. We’re just working on a project together.

Phone(Michael W.): I don’t know. I talked to everyone else and they said it was a date.

Tom: Ahhh!

Daisy: 6 to 1.

Phone(Michael W.): Oh sorry dude, I gotta go. Tell me how the date goes later.

Tom(shout): It’s not a date.

Michael hangs up. Tom grabs the phone and goes to his room.

Tom’s House: Tom’s Room

Tom dials Drake’s number.

Phone(Drake): Tommy, what’s up?

Tom: If you had to ask that means Mike hadn’t told you yet.

Phone(Drake): No he told me. How’d you get a date with Darcy?

Tom: It’s not a date. We’re just taking pictures.

Phone(Drake): Call it what you want. It’s still a date.

Tom: Thanks for taking my side, my best friend.

Phone(Drake): Sorry, you can’t win them all.

Tom: Yeah and maybe it is.

Phone(Drake): Well I’ve gotta go. Tell Andy I said hi and how your date goes. Bye.

Tom: Seya.

Tom hangs up the phone and lies on his bed.

Bronson Caves: Area 1- Saturday

Tom and Darcy venture up the rocky mountain of Bronson Caves.

Tom: Why did you have to suggest we come out here Darcy? It’s just a very rocky mountain.

Darcy: We needed a background for the project. And the Bronson Caves have good scenery higher up.

Tom: Really? Have you been here before?

Darcy: Yep. Mark and I would come out here once every summer.

Tom: Wait. You and Mark? I though you two hated each other.

Darcy: It seems like that cause we’re very competitive. We’re actually good friends.

Bronson Caves: Area 2

Mark sits up on the mountain moping until found by Gavin.

Gavin: What are you doing here?

Mark(mope): Oh, senior Gavin. I’m just thinking.

Gavin: Where’s your girlfriend?

Mark(still moping): Darcy’s not my girlfriend. And she’s here with Tom taking pictures.

Gavin(getting mad): The freshman’s here?

Mark: Yeah. Is there something between you two? Cause whenever he’s mentioned you tend to lose it.

Gavin: Never mind that. This will be a perfect place to finish it.

Mark: What?

Bronson Caves:

Tom and Darcy reach a point high enough to see the Hollywood sign.

Darcy: We’re here.

Tom(exhausted): Finally.

Darcy: You don’t hike that much do you?

Tom(recovering): No, not really.

Darcy(laugh): So I was thinking we’d use the Hollywood sign as the background. I’ll take the picture if you need to rest.

Tom: No I’ll do it.

Tom takes the camera out of his backpack and moves slightly closer to the sign. Tom pauses to take the picture. The rocks below him slide down and Tom loses balance falling down with them.

Darcy(shout): Tom!

Mark comes up the pathway and approaches Darcy.

Mark: Darcy, what’s wrong?

Down the mountain where Tom is. Tom comes down to Gavin.

Tom(in pain): Ow-ow-ow that hurt.

Gavin: Hello again freshmen.

Tom looks up to see Gavin.

Tom(scared): Gavin?!

Gavin(mad): Ready to finish what you started freshmen?

Tom(still scared): I’m sorry I ran into you on the first day.

Gavin(still mad): No that. You don’t remember what happened seven years ago at Suburban Park?

Flashback- Jacksonville, Florida: Suburban Park- 7 Years Ago

Tom thinks back to a point when he and Drake were playing in a park and Gavin lived in Jacksonville. Tom and Drake toss a ball back and forth while Gavin and his friend look down into a great hole dug into the ground.

Young Gavin: Amazing! That’s a pretty deep hole.

Gavin’s Friend: What would happen if someone fell in?

Over by Tom and Drake. Drake tosses the ball back to Tom. Tom pauses.

Young Drake: Come on Tom, you throw the ball like a girl.

Young Tom: No I don’t.

Young Drake: Yeah you do. I bet you couldn’t even throw the ball hard enough to knock me down.

Young Tom(winding up): Prepare to eat those words.

Tom throws the ball too hard and it flies over Drake. The ball ends up hitting Gavin on the back pushing him into the hole.

Bronson Caves:- Present Day

Tom(shocked): This was you?

Gavin(mad): Yes. After that incident I was in a two week coma. When I woke up I vowed to get revenge but I relocated to California. In time I calmed down about that but…

Flashback- Lakeside High: California- September

Tom walks into the cafeteria.

Rufus(laugh): Gavin, get a load of the freshmen over there. He’s as lost as a bug.

Gavin laugh but gets a good look at Tom.

Gavin(mad): No way.

Bronson Caves:- Present Day

Darcy and Mark come down and join Tom and Gavin.

Tom: So you staged the whole thing?

Gavin: It was worth it to make your life a living hell.

Darcy: No matter what happened between you two before Gavin, what you did caused a disturbance for everyone.

Gavin: This doesn’t involve anyone but the freshmen and me.

Mark: This is going too far Gavin. I think it would be best if you leave.

Gavin: The school doesn’t have the power to protect him here.

Mark: On contrary, if you harm a fellow student then the council can suspend or expel you.

Darcy: It’s your choice Gavin.

Gavin: You live for another day but it’s not over freshmen.

Gavin leaves.

Darcy: Are you ok Tom?

Tom: Yeah I’m ok, but the camera’s not.

Darcy: Forget that for now. Let get you out of here.

Lakeside High: Entrance- Monday

Tom and Darcy tell the Crew what happened on Saturday.

Kyle: So what happened on the first day was staged?

Sarah: I know I do bad thing that this is a little far.

Marie: You should have got him back.

Michael W.(happy): I can’t believe my little boy was in that much trouble. (mad)That damned Gavin.

Darcy: Well it’s true and it’s pretty clear he won’t let up any time soon either.

Tom(smile): Oh well. No need to worry about it now.

Andrew: How can you be so happy at a moment like this?

Tom(smile): If he tries something then I’ll have to be ready for it.

Tom exits and Andrew follows.

Sarah: What gave him a confidence boost?

Darcy: I don’t know. I should ask the council about this.

Kyle: Oh Darcy, you know the prank against Andy.

Darcy: Yeah, there’s still no lead on the culprits yet.

Kyle: It was Gavin. Apparently it was targeted more at Tom.

Sarah: You know, that would make since. Getting rid you your enemy’s closest friends to cause damage.

Marie(side comment): You should know considering you tried it.

Michael W.: Well this sucks. Just what the hell are we suppose to do?

Darcy: Stay low for now. We shouldn’t tell Tom or Andy about this either.

Michael W., Marie, Kyle & Sarah: Agreed.

Everyone exits.
