What I Had

What I Had

A Poem by MattD

Just looking back on stuff and thinking

What I had

I’m staring my past in the eye
As each day goes by.
Hoping things aren’t from fate.
Because it feels too out of place.

But I'll continue not to stand by,
In order to see my doubts die.
So let’s wait for the beginning.
And let’s hide away, pretending
That some things are forever.
Forgetting the word “never”

I’m staring my past in the eye
As each day goes by.
Hoping things aren’t from fate.
Because it feels too out of place.

If I start now I can mess up early,
Learn whatever I did horribly,
And then prevent that for the rest
Of this long walk. That’s some test.
Luckily someone’s hoping I win,
Someone I didn’t want to let in.

I’m staring my past in the eye
As each day goes by.
Hoping things aren’t from fate.
Because it feels too out of place.

Fear trips me to fall on the ground,
That one time there’s no sound
But the heartbeat inside the soul.
I guess that means I’m still whole.
I feel a lot better than before.
Now it’s time for the next door.

I’m staring my past in the eye
As each day goes by.
Hoping things aren’t from fate.
Because it feels too out of place.

Hey I’ll just do what I’ve always done,
At whatever cost to have some fun.
Maybe find some strangers to befriend
That will help me out towards the end.
Why I see the end of something new:
I’ve kept it safeguarded for mainly you.

That’s a good thing; it’s not bad.
It’s a lot better than what I had.
