Prologue
A grey she-cat stalked through Starclan. She had her hackles raised as she reached a yellow tom.
"Hello Smokestar," the tom greeted kindly.
Smokestar rolled her eyes. "Oh, can it with the politeness Sunfire!"
Sunfire tipped his head. "What's wrong?"
"My deputy Moonshadow told me that, before you died, you told the whole clan that I was pregnant!" Smokestar hissed.
"I thought you knew."
"Yeah i knew, after i had them! So why didn't you tell me?" Smokestar demanded.
Sunfire looked down at his paws. "Because I didn't want you to know that one of our kits are going to go down a dark path," he mumbled.
"So? I can change it, right?" Smokestar asked, fear edging her meow.
Sunfire shook his head. "I am afraid that all of this kits paths are dark."
"No," Smokestar growled, "there is always a way."
"If only you weren't so mouse-brained," Sunfire said, faiding away.
Then, Smokestar awoke.
