Prologue

Prologue

A Chapter by Shadow

A man comes through a blue shimmering portal into a futuristic dimension. He shivers from the ice on his jacket and looks at his arm as it evaporated into the air. He looks at the laser burned walls of the once beautiful buildings and breathes deeply, smelling the soot and stale air. The streets look like a war-zone, some of the buildings look like they are about to fall over and rubble is strewn all over the ground. He grabs his bag off the ground, which he dropped when he fell out of the portal, he runs up the street to a building that is still mostly intact. As he enters the home he tries to be as cautious as possible. He can feel the adrenaline coursing through his body. Its dark as night in the room and as he shuts the door he hears a computers voice say, "Identify yourself!"

"My name is Lucas Hunt."

"Welcome back, Lucas!" it says with enthusiasm as the lights turn on.

“Who else is here?” Lucas says with concern.

“Only your wife Merinda. She is asleep. Do you wish me to wake her?”

“No. I want to surprise her.”

He walked up the stairs and pushed open the door to the master bedroom, looking in to see her inside sleeping on the bed. He tiptoes to the edge of the bed and sets his bag on the ground. He silently kneelt onto the bed and leaned down to give his wife a kiss. Just before he could kiss her forehead, she bolted upright and he feels something hard press into his forehead. All he can hear is screaming.

This is a good start. The change is person is a problem. Going from he to I in the same chapter doesn't work.
