Escape

Escape

A Poem by Gem
"

This was written at the beginning of the year when I had a few things changing in my life and I was entering my last full term at the same school I'd been in for seven years. Hindsight's a wonderful thing once you have it.

"

I need a new escape
A route away from life’s blank tape
The rumour ‘streets are paved with gold’
Is now starting to fray and fold
The silver lining’s never in my cloud
And wishes never work when spoken aloud
The grass may be greener on the other side
Whilst I try and salvage some pride
Life, they say, is bitter sweet
When all but good fortune do I meet

I like this. This is a good piece for when one is feeling trapped; it helps to put everything into focus. I love the lines "The silver lining's never in my cloud, and wishes never work when spoken aloud". It's powerful yet sad, and that makes a good combination. Good work.
