I Wake Up Without You

I Wake Up Without You

A Poem by Shannon Carinne Sparks
"

A sorting out of only memories that wash up every once in awhile.

"

I wake up in the desert - I search the void
I reach for the mountains and the valley - That are your body
But find only barren sheets

I wake up in the rain - My face droops drenched by emotion
My tears are like shadows - They follow me
Wherever I might go

I wake up too early - I rise before the sun reaches the horizon
Her beauty is torment - I shall never see it
For I am long gone by then

The imagery is stark, and the poem leaves the reader understanding, without going going overboard, the depth of feeling of your loss and despair. The breaking of a lover's contract is an intimate wound, and you gently captured its essence in a cage of longing.

Such deep emotions intwined in this creative piece... I especially like the middle stanza.

Nicely done. I'm not keen on the mid-line capitals, but your words convey your message well - I am left with a feeling of sadness and loss.
