The Other Half of Consciousness

The Other Half of Consciousness

A Poem by Shannon Carinne Sparks
"

In this poem I was trying to explore the psychology of dreams and the unconscious mind, as being a dormant part of the reality that we are all so familiar with.

"

The moon rises
Bringing forth our night
She breathes heavy breaths
Breaking the silence with her sighs
With eternal sight
She delights in the laments of the dead

She laughs softly
As exstacy becomes her
Bringer of pleasure and terror
Her highs are lofty
Hearing the screams of her tossing-turning fair
And her burning eyes squint narrower

She is the ferryman
Who navigates the waters
Of a hidden sub-conscious
And she controls the fairyland
Behind the eyes of waking ponders
Which we are so easy to dismiss

Is what we think we feel
The answer to a true reality
Or are we forgetting something sealed
She remembers what is really real
Behind the caged minds of humanity
The actress in the movie as the film reels

She dances across
Our open minds
That will be closed when light comes
Like a new car's gloss
In the backs of our heads she winds
Awakened by sleep's lulling hum

The sun dawns
And half the truth sets
Lying dormant under open orbs
Once again pawns
Under her fingers kept
We walk stupidly into the void

What is the other half exactly? It doesn't matter, there is no need to get too indepth. The poem croons an uneasy picture at first, which "we are easy to dismiss", It gives the idea that the "other half" suffers suppression. I hope that the doubt sprinkled throughout the poem was intentional because i must say it makes the poem very emotive. This poem shines where probing untrodden realms are concerned. Where the dreams are concerned, they could've been made more vivid (livid, bizzare, laced wit adrenaline- it doesnt matter). Nevertheless, the message is brought across with a spectrum of sexual, disturbed and even philosophical ambiance. It was carefully and beautifully written. Write some more.
