The Broken Street

The Broken Street by Shaan Ahmed

"
I walk by a street
A broken street
A Street where souls are consumed by greed and lust
A Street where evil is considered a must
Oh dear god
Why is that little girl scared and alone?
Didn’t you send her here to be a cyclone?
And tell me god
Why is that man a thief
It is a tragedy
All he wants to do is believe
God tell me
Who’s that woman with the long leggings?
She almost looks as if she’s begging
Cigarettes in her hand
Oh I wonder how she can still stand
I don’t know god why won’t you tell me
Who that boy is
The one that sits every day in that park
Just hoping he would find a love that’s born to last
Was he meant to live his entire life with a broken heart?
I know we messed up
I know we broke
I know we fought
And I know we barely spoke
But no more God
I do not want to live in this street
A Street where disaster is considered a treat
Oh God tell me you’re listening
Or are you beyond reasoning?
