Under the Rug

Under the Rug

A Poem by Sophie

There's a lump under the rug
Secret thoughts and secret words
Swept under the rug

Expectations not being met
Sweet gestures only from one
I dream of your fist at someone's face,
Take me to a beautiful place

What shall we do with that lump in the rug?
Lift it and merge those thoughts and words
Into a fierce and beautiful rage
A rage of fire
And throw it at me

Make me cry, cry to you
And then love me as I'm black and blue
Bring me the prettiest flowers you'll find
Before your heart becomes blind

There's a lump under the rug
And until it starts the fire
Our hearts will become blind

Sweet love
Sweet love of mine
I know you're sad and it's all my fault
So tell me it's all my fault
And then love me purely again

Let's take the rug and burn it down
Kiss me by the flames
Open up your truth to me
You can call me horrible names

We'll buy a new rug and never again
Will things be swept under it
So we can move on and I'll show you this song
With nothing swept under the rug
