Grandma

Grandma

A Poem by Sophie
"

A poem I wrote for my Grandma's funeral.

"
My visions are like those of a dream
I haven't got as many as I wish
The oldest memories are the ones I like the most
Of you being there on days which meant a lot to me
Smiling and truly being there
I remember a big building and an indoor swimming pool
I remember being in that warm and sweet big building playing games
Hiding the thimble and eating biscuits
I can't help but wonder how it could be around now
My thoughts are with you more than they ever have been
And with the memories I have, I feel like I've truly lost

I'm sorry for the loss of your grandma . . . this is a heartfelt poem to share on such an occasion, to celebrate time spent with her. Altho it's kinda sacred ground to be treading upon, I'll just say I prefer the last half of the message, where you include details that are vivid & unique to this relationship, compared to the first half, which is more general & vague & could apply to anyone's grandma. Details are what make this poem come alive in the second half.

Sophie,
After you read this, I cannot imagine a dry eye at your grandmother's service … you've so deeply touched my heart.
It is hard to hold onto all your dreams, eh? For me, too, it is those from youth that sing the sweetest and most endearingly vivid.
I love your grannie's gleaming smile and Carmen Miranda look in the photo … I know she must have been quite the lady and so joyful to be around … everyone should have a grandmother like yours.
I know you miss her (at certain times) in a way nothing but she can fulfill, and thanks goodness for wonderful memories that keep you two connected!

I love Free Verse, and this is beautifully blessed with tender emotion and imagery … thank you for sharing, Dear Poetess! ⁓ Richard

A meaning-full remembrance that expresses your caring while giving a true glimpse of HER caring back.

A lovely Lady in the pic...

Thank you! She sure was, and what an amazing taste in hats! I wish I could have that hat..

It doesn't hurt to ask about it... many times the hats and accessories just get lost in the shuffle .. read more
