Queen of Hearts

Queen of Hearts

A Poem by wolfie

My heart had fallen through the realm to Anubis
Against the feather of Ma'at there was no comparison
Beating on a scale, the weight of sin was deeply engraved in regret
When black butterflies flutter do my eyes open
Heavy is my heart and like stone it sank in the depths of me
Like a dream, moonlight visited me
Told me the story of a dying sun
My throat constricted, dry with sand that stabbed and marked my tongue
There I could see it, my truth serum tattoo
Shoulders burrowed, and unfurled there were cadaverous feathers
Like pointed quills they quivered
Transparent against pale bones as they hovered like a cocoon
The next I saw the world, no holy or unholy being could catch my tongue
A heart broke but it wasn't mine
No, my heart was no longer stone
No longer a victim of medusa
Rather, a fragile golden blossom that bloomed in that sea of despair
Risen from the underworld
Hidden among the petals, a heart of hearts
My dagger tongue held no mercy
As the words spilled from my throat as though a bubble of blood had overflown
That ashen feather flew among the doves
It wasn't cruelty...
I just chose myself this time
