Shifting Gems

Shifting Gems

A Poem by wolfie

Exhaustion overtakes after hours as heavy eyelids droop,
and blood pressure drops with each elongated breath.
The mind tumbles all the while afterimages surface;
replaying memories that were once shrouded under the vines of age and time,
the sensation of free falling overrides the body,
and is as mystical as hypnosis or nirvana.
We are thrown into those little escapades sent from the brain's sensory,
similar to a virtual reality,
spewing across the vast difference in our physical dimension,
as we travel to a land we do not stand upon.
It rushes through us and manipulates our nerves,
to a point in which we swear it lingers upon our taste buds,
yet it lands dull on our tongues.
How horrific are dreams,
how beautiful they can be,
taunting us with false hopes,
then suddenly pried from our hands and gone by the morning.
Gone like ashes in a sea, lost far from the shore.
