Breathe

Breathe

A Poem by sgheath
"

The basics of life.

"
In the first few moments of life
I have to find my way,
and breathe
In and out, in and out
It seems so simple
and yet so basic
When I am afraid
I stop and say
just breathe
When I am happy and
overjoyed
I can hardly catch my
breath
In a time of grief,
I may not want to breathe
but I do
Just like a familiar
country song, I remind
myself to
Just breathe...

As a labor coach I remind my patients that it is the simple act of breathing that helps us to bear pain.

One could imagine this would be such simple advice it borders on the benign, but ultimately we are creatures that with all our complexities need to be reminded to do simple things; simple things that carry so much with them in terms of overall help.

My best friend says this a lot, getting me in turn to say it to her and others now as it carries more than just the meaning of the words. To her, she equates writing to breathing; the longer she holds it in the larger the release when she finally puts pen to page again. I equate it in a similar fashion, but more or less a reminder to take even a breath before speaking and feel the tensions and anxieties pull away before saying something damaging.

A simple yet wonderful piece of work here; kudos and please keep it up.
