letter from cara

when i was 14 another anorexic girl offered me a solution to my addictions. she had a way out. she wrote it in a letter. i read it once and then hid it in an old jewelry box. i dont need the letter. i can still remember her words. exactly.

last night i dreamt i'd found your letter

tucked up neatly in an old box

i hid away to read your words

offering me a different way of life

i didnt take it then

i would take it now

i wish for that chance

again

It's nicely constructed--nice and tight, brisk and unornamented--but I found it a bit too spare; I think there is much more here (e.g, what is the "different way of life"? what were the consequences of not taking "that chance"), and I think it is somewhat incomplete as it stands. With some fleshing out, it could be something quite good indeed.
