Population 0 - Chapter OneA Chapter by SabrinaChapter One of Population 0.Chapter One Wind howled outside as the clouds were a brewing black and gray mess. Lightning flashed in the distance. Thunder followed. “Mom, I’m scared.” A 6 year old girl walked out from her sleeping chamber shivering. “Leila, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s just a little thunder.” Her mom told Leila in a comforting voice. “I’m still scared.” Leila replied as more thunder rolled outside shaking the house. Leila ran to her mom. Her mom embraced her, rubbing her back to comfort her. “Let’s go get you back to sleep.” Her mom said. Her mom carried her back to her sleeping chamber. She dropped Leila into her bed as more lightning flashed followed seconds later by roaring thunder. The lights blacked out and Leila screamed. “Calm down Leila. It’s just a little blackout, it’ll be okay.” Leila’s mom said trying her best to calm Leila down. Leila started squirming. Thunder roared again but didn't stop. It got louder, louder, louder. The sky got darker, darker, darker. Leila’s mom ran to the window. A huge funnel was spinning around in what was almost a black sky. She raced over to Leila and ripped her out of her bed. “Grab as much as you can carry!” Leila’s mom shouted. They raced around the house grabbing their phones, radios, blankets, and clothes. As soon as they couldn't carry anything more they raced out the door and to the entrance to Ellsworth. The Hundred Ways staircase looked gloomy and trashed. Leila and her mom began the dimly lighted journey down the stairs. People who hadn't given to Ellsworth thrashed violently in the wind and ran for their lives. © 2015 Sabrina |
