The sky is falling...

The sky is falling...

A Poem by desertraven

The sky is falling...

Not positive of the year,

but I was under 13

another family vacation at the beach.

Sea View Motel,

directly across the street from the beach

and Joey Harrison’s Surf Club

Our neighbors and parents decide to stay 3 more days...

Together, the 11 of us, in a single motel room...

Craziness, but it worked.

I awoke one morning,

to the sound of helicopter blades,

swooshing threw the strong winds...

A storm, the night before,

blew apart a fishing boat

sending it’s catch of the day

our way.

I see it!

A shark, beached, still alive

police, Coast Guard and beach patrol

gathered together, to check out the scene...

Had to wake my best friend, and my dad.

Wind up waking the entire room

with my shrills of excitement

next day,

I awoke to helicopter blades

swooshing threw the morning air

this time, FBI, FAA and local police

surround a large piece of what

looks like a space craft parts.

I told dad and we quickly dressed

running to the scene

An actual piece of SKYLAB? Falling to earth

In New Jersey? At the beach?

Just a few yards from our

crowded little motel room...

Yes, it was a piece of Skylab...

Several pieces..all along the beach...

Close call...but not my time

The plain ordinariness of the facts catches the eye and then how a slight change to plans can lead to a cluster of extraordinary events. Really enjoyed the story in the poem. Life's randomness never ceases to amaze.

I agree with Tao it does bring the reader right into the scene of excitement. You really have had some adventures in your life!
