Flaoting out to Sea...

Flaoting out to Sea...

A Poem by desertraven
"

during a family vacation, yet another exciting piece, brought to you by, yup...me again!

"

Floating out to Sea...

Ortley Beach, New Jersey,

1976, 9 years old

family took a trip

with our neighbors

fun to be had

by one and all.

Can’t wait to get on my raft

with my best friend, Michelle.

Laughing, splashing, frolicking about

without a care in the world...

Younger brother mentions

we’ve floated away from our parents

we look up in horror

we are more than a mile away

and much further out

than we were allowed.

Mom screaming,"where’s your father?"

In the club, with the neighbor Dad

having drinks and a smoke

Mom frantic and pleading,

"someone help them!"

A nearby nurse heard my mother’s cries,

and dove in, like a swan

rescuing me, my brother and my best friend

before the undertow claimed us for good.

Got in a lot of trouble, but one thing is sure

Not my time to go...

'Not my time to go' ... this is quite a sequence of poems! I like it. You show how easily these things can happen...there you were without a care and CRISIS!

Sandi, I love how you end these. It is not my time to go. After reading all your adventures, I think you have had your share of close calls. I bet you got into a lot of trouble for that one, right after the big hug...lol
