She stands ready

She stands ready

A Poem by desertraven
"

about my oldest daughter , Samantha

"

She stands ready (for Samantha)

With wings spread wide,

She says she’s ready

for take off,

beaming with pride.

She stands with the limb

clenched in her young talons.

Wanting to soar

with older falcons.

Daring herself

not to look down.

As the warning signs

continue to mound.

I tell her

she’s not ready,

that she will surely fall.

But still she stands ready

to fly or to fall.

You’ve been hurt already,

I insist.

But she stands ready,

my concern, she resists.

The count down has begun,

the time is growing near.

For my first born chick

to leave what is dear.

To use what is known

to prove she is grown.

To just leave her alone,

cuts me to the bone.

Her attempt

to do her best,

She knows

she is still welcome

in my safe little nest.
