The Porcupine

The Porcupine

A Poem by desertraven

The Porcupine"defensive, standoff-ish, cold and prickly, offensively silent,

and non responsive"

It is so out of character

for you

and it’s making me blue.

You are so chatty

when you get home from work,

But lately,

you’ve been such a jerk.

Keeping to yourself

"you’ve got a lot on your mind"

The root of the problem

I’ve yet to find.

Your thoughts and feelings

kept close to the vest.

This attitude is

not your best.

I bang my head against the wall

trying to make sense of it all.

It’s not possible

for me to condone

this attitude and tone

you give me on the phone.

Discussing the issue,

you choose to postpone.

This disruption,

I try to get pass

Your silence

knocks me on my a*s

You say it’s not me,

but I still cannot see

what the problem

could possibly be.

Maybe...money?

Oh, come on, Honey

It’s no longer funny

Because of a dime?

you’re out of time

To play the role of a porcupine...

A serious problem, but you present it with a spiky humour which I love. By the way forgot to say I really liked the title My Book, A Poem. The Porcupine also turns the spotlight on your immediate experiences with great effect.
