Darling Daughter
A Poem by

Darling Daughter
Reflecting...
The day she
was born
the perfect name?
We were torn
Ribbons
and lace
with an
angel’s face
sugar and spice
and everything nice...
OH REALLY?
Fast forward
threw the "tweens"
right into the
terrible teens!
The make-up
and hair
the fashion
despair
hormones and
mood swings
PMS and other
fun things
the looks and
the attitude
not an ounce
of gratitude
boyfriends
and curfew
doing things
they shouldn’t do
piercings and
tattoos on their bum
revealing clothes
her friends have some
school projects
and finals
my sanity
spirals
dear, oh dear
the Senior year
so full of cheer
graduation pictures
and supplies
watch how the
money flies
Senior skip day
and the alibi’s
Then comes the day
she walks across the stage
when the chaos is done
made it threw the first one...

I did enjoy!
It makes me feel good and it is comical in ways but so loving and so worth all the 'bad things' lol

I'll just have to take your word for it! Given the boldness of the text and foreboding within this prophetic writing, it can only assumed, a poignant parental message is at the heart of it all!
Interesting and reflective piece!

I have a 16 year old daughter. Been lucky ... so far! Read your piece with keen interest. By the way when you say 'stage' at the end you didn't mean a real stage did you? or just the stage of life she gone through?

I love it! My stepdaughter is 16, and I can relate to a lot of this, as can others, I'm sure.
Awesome flow and rhythm to this, Sandra!

My daughter is six and everyone tells me she is just like me... Which has be especially dreading the teen age year as I was less then a model daughter. This had me laughing and made me call my mother to read it to. Thanks for sharing.

I don't have children but at times, I do wonder how my mother must've gone through what she went through with me.
Your poem brought in a flood of memories - ranging from difficult times to fun times.
Thanks for that.
