When the sun comes up will you be there?A Story by my life in black and whiteThe love story of my Generation
When the sun comes up will you be there?
All throughout my life, i wasn't the only one telling the stories in my family. My grandfather use to tell use stories of his experiences in WW2 and many other interesting facts about his life. I find this very amusing seeing as how I am the telling the stories of my life, and i am not 83. With that said...There was a story he told me once. It was the story of how him and my grand mother fell in love. Enjoy....
My grandfather was 18 when he met my grandmother. This was back in the days when gas wasn't 4 dollars a gallon, and you could buy cheeseburgers for twenty-five cents...
The story goes about the time my grandfather was about my age and headed down the wrong path. See g pa's mom had died when he was real, real young and so Columbus (my great grandfather) remarried. The lady he remarried was a horrible person (aka B***h). She already had four other kids, and really all she was looking for was money, seeing as how she had four kids and no hubby.
To tell you the truth, I really don't know what happened to her first husband, and i don't really care.
Well, anyways the story goes my g pa's dad died of lung cancer, most likely because he worked the coal mines. So, my g pa dropped out, and started a job working the coal mines.(how ironic right?)
About this time one of his friends was dating a young girl by the name of Cindy. She was a beautiful girl with beautiful brown eyes, who was not my grandmother...
You see, Cindy had a friend who was even more paralyzing than her. Her name was Jenny...
The prettiest name in all the world. (revert back to forest gump)
My g pa started seeing Jenny, and he fell in love with her, and she fell in love with him.
Time went one and they fell in love and got married. Then my GPA was drafted into the war. As i sit down with my grandmother even still today...she cannot and will not finish this story without crying...
As my GPA was picked up by his friend( who during the war would later on die in my g pa's arms, yes Cindy's man) to leave, my g parents were heart broken.
As my g pa got in the back of the truck, my grandmother ran out screaming and yelling that she needed him, and that she could not live without him.
the truck started to roll.
As the truck started to drive off my grandmother yelled after him, "When the sun comes up will you be there?"
"Always" he yelled back.
My grandmother did not have the chance to tell him that she was pregnant...
In truth i honestly do not know how long my g pa served in the army, but he did tell me when he got back that it was early. My g ma was still asleep, while he snuck up to there bedroom, layed down beside her and whispered in her ear,
"When the sun comes up will you be there?"
"Always"
