A Poem by Daughter of the King
"

Comfort in a poem.

"

Some people say that the home can become monotonous.

The same walls, smells, and colors.

The refrigerator always seems to have the same items in it,

And half the time the bathroom light is just on.

But I think familiar is a better word.

When you leave you hesitate to wash your laundry because the smell reminds you of what safety feels like..

It smells like happy.

Sometimes you get the sudden urge to climb on the roof and stare into the depths of the starry sky, to call out to God and see if he answers..

And other times the dark corner of your room calls, and you spend a quiet hour hidden away from all your troubles.

And then there is home in the form of a person.

It is so different and yet so similar to a house.

It’s a resting place for your soul.

Their smile feels like a hug, and the way their eyes sparkle is like getting a letter in the mail.

And seeing them is like coming back from a long vacation,

And life is whole again.

But just like a home, people break.

Their hearts can only give so much before they have nothing left to give,

So we mustn't forget to take good care of them, just as we take care of our homes.

The floors need to be swept, just as the mind needs the cobwebs gently brushed away.

Sometimes a light bulb goes out, and needs replacing;

People lose their inspiration, and search for someone to help turn the light back on.

So never take home for granted because one day it may be gone,

And then you’ll realize ever so much more how the fingerprinted windows, the laundry on the floor, and the lights always on were a comfort to your soul in its greatest times of need.
