Impressions of FearlessnessA Poem by Elizabeth RistowStanding on the shores of the great water, I was given to thought...
Once, when I was at the sea on a cold and cloudy day, I just stood on the shore and watched the mighty waves pounding, the sea foam scourging the sand into smoothness
And, I thought how powerful the water was, how eager the tide was to destroy ... how easily it would crush me, if I was foolish enough to step into the churning depths and leave my proper boundaries
Then, the impression came to me ... "This is power, yes, but it is only an nth degree of the power of the One who made it. Look, listen, and learn."
The Voice behind the thought was familiar, so I had no trouble listening, and I felt, swelling in my heart, a desire to know Him more ... to wring out of the moment every bit of revelation possible
I reached and reached, but still felt unsatisfied
And, I have decided that the depth of His heart is far deeper than that of the Sea, which He has made. One cannot plumb that depth all in a moment
So, I walk on, still reaching, still hungry, but at peace. Because, I do not have to fear the crushing waves of life, like the cold, dark of the sea
I know the one who holds such power in His hand as a mere harmless drop
And He is FOR me...
His love casts out all fear
And, I am free
