Bundled under covers

Lost to the world

Soul sinking lower

Than it’s ever been

Fighting a battle I can’t win

Keeping my eye lids on lock down

But the fear filled fluid

Breaks free anyways

Diluting my sense of masculinity

Real men don’t cry…

But no one is here to see

So I’m free to lie in my bed

And release…

Confidentially …

 

I’m in this all alone

No comforting shoulder of a friend

So the softness of my pillow

Has to hold the heaviness

Of all of the burdens

Hidden in my head

Carrying all of the hell

Of the past few years

Drowning in my thoughts

Baptized by my own tears

Until I can lift the covers

And face the world again

Relieved,

Replenished,

And free of fear

I don't understand the picture. I mean, I understand it, obviously, I'm not a moron *laugh* but I don't understand its context in relationship to the poem. The poem that was very good? you ask. And I say, Yeah, that poem. Some real strong emotional stuff going on in this write; struggles with being a real man who can't cry (bullshit, by the way), some heavy stuff from your past, the feeling of being alone...all heady stuff. All of which you captured beautifully. I'm just completely lost by the picture. Only because this didn't come off as a piece on oppression. Just my own personal two cents, though. Excellent write.

i didn't have this picture in my head while i was writing it...but when i was searching for an image to depict the meaning of this poem, i came across this pic... U r correct the poem is not about being oppressed... but i thought that the photo would show that the poem could be applied to many situations...
im not sure if that makes any sense lol

Great message man! I don't really have any critiques. I enjoyed your poem and I think the illustration is perfect for what you're talking about. A man burdened by fear, but trapped from discussing it because of his perceived masculinity. That's real!
