Everyday Interrupted

Everyday Interrupted

A Poem by -S.

The 3 o’clock train
Always the 3rd car
Left side, window seat
Every day and today

I see the same faces
The guy with the green hat
The blonde woman and her child
Every day and today

All of them familiar,
All of them there,
Nodding in recognition
Every day and today

I always pass the same fields
The houses next to the tracks, always there
Same stop, 5 years
Every day and today

You always wait at the corner
Sometimes with flowers
Sometimes just your smile
Every day, but today

Today I step off to a silent street
I walk home alone
I set the table for two
Like every day before today

I dread sleeping alone
I am scared of waking alone
I prepare to be alone
Every day, starting today
