The Darkness Staring Back at me

You think you are safe in the comfort of your home, but what if someone else also takes the pleasure of finding comfort in your home but without you knowing about it.

"
I'm lying in bed listening to the downpour of the rain clash on to my rooftop, I can almost smell the mist of the rain slipping through the cracks of the window. Rain has always been so soothing to me; the smell, the sound, watching the water slide down the car or bedroom window. The silent room fills with the sound of the rains rapid pitter patter. The lightening brightens the room occasionally but then is consumed by darkness again. I start turning my eyes away from the window to scan around the darkness in my room. My whole body freezes as my eyes are caught by a figure standing in the corner of my room. I stare hard at the tall dark mass in the corner of my room but then reason starts to kick in, I have a floor lamp that resides in that corner. My body starts to relax and I release the breath I've been holding. I turn on to my side away from the corner and I start to feel extremely tired.

My eyes peeled open to the loud roll of thunder. My eyes fall over my clock on my end table, only thirty minutes has passed. I sigh and stare into the wall in front of me letting the sound of rain swallow me back into slumber. Right before I was starting to doze off, a flash of lightening illuminated the room and casted a mans tall shadowy figure onto the wall I was facing. I stay still, frozen in place. Even though the room was filled with the sound of pouring rain, I could hear his raspy heavy breath clearly. I hear his feet slide across the floor closer to the other side of my bed. My body goes stiff as I feel the bed start to sink in. My breath is starting to shake and my heart is beating so loud I swear he can hear it. I feel the bed sink more as he leans over me. My stomach churns as his weight lowers closer onto me. His hot breath falls over my face as his face gets closer to mine. I think he trying to see if I'm awake. Although I am faced away from him and my eyes are closed, I can feel his eyes burning holes into me. I feel his eyes examine my body before he starts to back off of me. An overwhelming sense of relief washes over me when I feel his weight leave the bed. He starts to pace around my room, rummaging through my drawers and things. I can tell he goes to specific spots in my room as though this is his routine. I am still frozen in place, trying to control my breathing. After a few minutes of him going through my things, he slowly opens my bedroom door and makes his way to the kitchen

I force my legs and feet to stand as they are weak from fear. I stay behind in my bedroom doorway so that he can't see me. I watch as he is eating the food from out of my fridge, but I realize he only takes the things I wouldn't really noticed were eaten out of and makes it look like it was barely even touched. This made me think that he does this often. How did he even get into my home? and how many times has he been in my home? He closes my fridge door and makes his way back down the hallway. I quickly climb back into bed and make it seem like I hadn't moved at all. His footsteps stop outside of my door for a moment but his feet start to slowly drag down to the end of the hallway where the hallway closet is at. I quietly get back out of bed and peer down the hallway. He starts to pull up loose pieces of wood from the floor of the closet and then slowly disappears into the floor. Confused, I gradually walk closer to the closet to understand where he disappeared to, as I get closer I see the loose pieces of wood being put back up like there was never even a hole in the floor.

It didn't take me long to understand that a strange man has been secretly living my home with me this whole time...
