The homecoming

The homecoming

A Story by Saurav Sen

Rajit walks in one evening, overwhelmed by his recent achievement. He says aloud “Baba, my tickets are done, so I fly in two weeks.”

“So you are obdurate on your decision I see. Great !! so be it. I am good if you are good. But you will come back, won’t you?” enquired Rajatava, a retired man in his early 60s.

“Baba, we had a discussion before. I go, settle down and take you there. Please understand that I do not belong here. I can’t really grow here. This is a real opportunity for me”

“But I belong here , son. I don’t want to leave either. But would never create a barrier in your career “, sighed Rajatava, “I will wait here anticipating your return”

“That’s not happening either. I guess there’s no point arguing on this anymore”, said Rajit, with a finality in his tone.

Seven years have gone by since this conversation took place between a father and a son.

Today early morning Rajatava starts for the airport to receive his son. But Rajit too kept his word. He did not return.

But Rajatava’s son would still be returning to the city permanently. He will land in an hours time at the city airport..with all bag and baggage…
