Undressing Beauty~

Undressing Beauty~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

Undressing Beauty~

Beauty knelt in the smoke of her lovely demise

the crushed rafters of dark licorice

ink stains in the curious dimples of her knees

she struggled, with broken arms

to pull the doll house deeper into her corners

lest the fairies with sharp desires

strip her even of her backward memories

Thumbelina cross referenced herself with the paradox

of Pandora

thumbing the old redwood’s roots

around a scholarly mole, who tsk’d at her self-imposed task

but gave her the purchase of his insights to grasp

to wrap around her plum bruise of a body

to help her scale her own abbreviated aberration

to some straight level of daily function

in a sky of razor planes

The reflection adjusted the faceless mask

her arms dancing through the hair of her doppelganger

in the mirror, mirror with a scalding mercurial fluid she wove

into patterned gowns

that left netting scars in diamonds

across the screaming scales of a thousand guests

as they made their appearance

bleeding down the spiral back of a snail

with a double curtsy

Little Red bore witness

to the madness of the palace, on a hill, far

far away in UnderLand

that held a world of pain in each chrysalis

suspended in crystal animation

while inside the fractal shells

the girls metamorphosed in tiny seedling increments

from victims

into butterflies

The title was definitely what captured my attention, but then reading the poem, I realized that it wasn't the best part.
Your use of diction and imagery is amazing. I felt like I could picture every scene in my head. The emotional connection to the reader is very strong as well.
I absolutely loved this poem. Keep up the good work!

The title drew me in and I am so pleased it did, as this is one of the best poems I have read in a very long time. Your use of our language is quite exquisite; and to anyone who has read and understood 'Thumbelina', your cross reference to Pandora is incredibly perceptive.

The final stanza, and in particularly the last four lines, sets a perfect seal on what is a really excellent poem.

Beccy.

The title is one that draws you in - Fairy tales and fairies like Tinkerbell I loved as a child, now i see fairy tales do no always if ever, have a happy , and they all lived happily ever after ending, some fairies are cruel if even they be a fairy amongst us-
Just on the edge of surreal , though the ending is like that of a fairy tale ... a happily ever after. This was so enjoyable to read and think about - love your poetry.... good to see a new one here.

I haven't done much reviewing (nor writing of late), but the title caught my attention. Stunningly beautiful and surreal. Woven like a fine tapestry. Kudos to you. I bow to brilliance.

Your anti-fairytales are great jolts of reality... the lesson here there will not always be a white knight to protect you but you still have the power to stand on your own. Very enlightening for all the ladies out there.
