Theoretical Lessons In Dating For The Maddest Hatter and His AliceTicTac And Toe~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole
"

~well that's a mouthful~

"

I’m not your conventional

lover

you see

it would be best you take the roses

to someone who is not wildly

allergic to them

to someone with less

of a fascination

with thorns around the rosy wrists

and it be wise

if you left my chair alone

so I can perch at the side of the wine glass

while you dabbed

embarrassment from your cheeks

making excuses

to a waiter who got the joke

and got the girl

in his unconventional Cadillac

at the stroke of midnight

while my ponytail flounced in gold threads

around the severe corners

giggling terrestrial rabbits tattoed

on the inside of my cheeks

bent

hood ornament of a queen’s diamond spleen

exuberant, I in a top hat of stars

over shoulder fair

grinning

“You said stroke.”

“the more

            complex the mind

the more

            The need for play”

and so

I declare

my bestseller writhing under mass production

“Theoretical Lessons In Dating For

            The Maddest Hatter

and  His AliceTicTac And Toe The Line”

better reinforce that sofa Oprah

I got Tom’s cruise in my hips

and webbed feet that followed me

home

with the decayed punk rock prince

from potty water rides at CBGB’s

where

conventional love

became trite

in my two step with pinned butterfly boys

who ate jabberwocky pie

with roses

while I sneezed my way

through a mushroom collage

in a magik bathroom

sorely in need of a good scrubbing

Roses are for poses

bring me the head

of John the Saxist

“I said head”

Now then brave stems in a concrete meadow

Who wants to play tic tac and toe the line

With a wild girl

allergic

to

roses?

i love all the fantasy elements in this poem, this is how i imagine underland with the white rabbit's puff ball tail and nothing too serious. i'll remember not to give you roses as you're allergic though! this poem has a wonderful abstract quality, so surreal, i love the way you play with words and ideas, the poetry following almost breathlessly, images that are immediately recognizable blend with surreal twists and turns creating a unique vision of the world. You make it look so easy! Incredible writing!

you are fabulous. men beware! this must be the prerequisite for the date. there are not too many men who are strong enough to handle this type of potency from a woman. i, myself, am disgusted by weak men. i look for a certain type of strength. It would be unwise to except anything less than a man who can handle our eccentricities and can match our complex wit!
well done, Selene. happy to read your work again.

“the more

That's the crux of the thing, isn't it? Trying to find someone who can follow you down the rabbit hole without tumbling on his head - Maybe not likely, but a rockin' good time getting there!

The way you dance through the words - Poking with a metaphor, jabbing with an adverb - Genius. Those pinned butterfly boys don't stand a chance.

Brilliant as always.

This one did feel like tumbling down the rabbit hole. It meanders and twists in a thousand ways, dragging the reader along. I think the poem is deliberately incoherent, much like a random sequence of events that characterize a dream. But the whimsical language throws enough hints about an inner layer. I also loved the way you seem to flip back and forth between the real world and the "wonderland" (or underland, if you prefer it!). Quite expertly done!

Do you have a dating 101, I'd loooove to read it. There is no hope for this girl in the real world. Because most men think it simple and easy to hand over a rose to make the girl fall in love. So cliche, If I had a choice....I'd be allergic to.
100/100 for needing a shrink.
