Perpetual Rinse~

Perpetual Rinse~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole
"

the odd morning of fragrant shatter~

"

I woke up to the sound

of

memory

misplaced

I looked between the polished hardwood

and the curved ceiling

while spiders

protested

webs on my fingertips;

it wasn't there

I looked inside the used Keurig cup

for your button down dreams

hit

by

a faint aroma of the toasted almond

you favored

but the memory slipped away

with the creamer

I looked with my hands

inside the laundry basket

but they felt only empty space

and a dryer sheet;

you were right

I am anal retentive

and busy

always keeping busy

to chase the dogs of rage

away

and now I wish I had left your stained shirt

unburied in detergent

somewhere at the bottom

of a memory

that is set on perpetual

rinse . . . .

thanks for the dilapadated

emotional impressions

in my back

you could have been cordial

and taken them with your

misplaced

memory

of me

am I really that bloody bad?

My lean back into the scent of memory

displaced

ticking the seconds

between the front door

and the train

as the machine against my back

clicks itself

to

spin . . . .

Even when you simplify you make things more complicated for me. I am sitting here with this cohesion mind-blowing phrases and a whirlwind of meaning and interpretation meander through the cerebellum of my soul. Such mundane tasks we take for granted you chew on and spit out... and it returns to us exotic.

You did an exceptional rewrite, Selene. I never want you to change your peculiarly wonderful and exotic style, I'm glad you took my advice for what it was and ran with it, and ended up creating something amazing out of a poem that was already gold. You just polished the shine the more brighter. You made it human for those of us who grasp the less abstract much easier. That's how writers become bestselling authors. You, Selene, are on your way to an amazing literary future.
Your line breaks are flawless and your content is offered with touching precision.

Apartment living, the trials of being young and rootless, trying to figure out where to go next, whether or not that person is the one for me. That's what I see here, a day in the life of an urban dweller wondering where the next day will take them. The last stanza is pure gold.

i've not seen this side of your poetry before. this is just so human, as people we are fragile at times and the memories - sometimes as clear as daylight but as here completely lost to us, buried so deep. i liked how the images were all so everyday, we see the shirt, maybe overcleaned, we see the laundary basket and the washer all things that play a part in our everyday lives and through it all the faint smell of almonds and the sudden self-questioning. i am always impressed by your poetry- this is truly exceptional :)

Very different for you but it really works. It adds intensity to the emotion and feeling, lingering and pressing against the mind.

"am I really that bloody bad?"
but bad can be so good sometimes :). "bad" can actually ease the swallowing of memories...
oh, and i think that we're all anal retentive - we just don't admit it, all of us...

And now you're a sculptor. I'm guessing only Reese and I saw the unshaped clay of the poem before you took your clever mind and shaped it into a hell of a chisel. The transition from unmolded pain to concise and sharp reflective lines is heart breaking and mind gripping. You're a killer poet, in the best of ways. Extraordinary.

fierce, from the first line I was hooked looking for the misplaced memory, your style is empowering; you do not allow anyone to taint you with their perception of a threat to you - it only strengthens you.

I love the spiders protesting webs on my fingertips line. And since I sell Keurig's all day long... no not that one! What a bittersweet little flower you've grown here. It's beautiful and brings a tear. As always, Selene, (suck up part here) great poem!

odd how these lines mix and yet they are paramount to understanding this poem...'and now I wish I had left your stained shirt
