The Underbelly Of Eden~

The Underbelly Of Eden~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

Eden has overgrown with vines

cables leavened in a novel icon’s kiln

arteries branch out from a thousand ash trees

self consuming in a vortex of red leaves

dancing around the Forbidden Tree;

under grasping branches

an old woman stitches closed the vulnerable eyes of a child

with black thread

the chanting of a million boys and girls dying to their own applause

Boy leaned his concave imagination into the center ring of a acorn tree

the girl at his feet a flickering mirage

speaking in lols and omg’s

her hair a tangle of honey rings

brazen and refined

Girl propped her silicon ampleness above the blue light

sending a wave of tease

through an ocean of ghosts gasping for a view

through a dozen windows

streaming various stages of decomposition

of the human mind

Ipods like jewels embedded in Woman’s fingertips

the broken keys of a piano splintering beneath the sharp heels of her seduction

she stroked the molecules with music

open

ripe

a burst of sound across her swollen tongue

pierced through with silver youth

slipping from the corners of the perfect pout

A man bent his scythe of light

embedded his seed inside the perfect illusion

that does not speak

or feel

is simply there to give wide eyes

and better head

How many w****s are branded by the light

How many men does it take to elevate the strata of lust to murder

When I was a little girl there was a little boy

who was very very bad when he was very very good

he said

“One day we’ll be watching killings on teevee as entertainment”

he didn’t know the half of it

and now I am a crone

long lived past my skin

stitching closed the eyes of a young child with black thread

to awaken the dreamer inside the dead of youth

an apple pie cooling in the roots

of the Forbidden Tree

Such a clever composition, blending together the detritus of our electonic and superficial age with the primordial spirit of Eden.. Paradise Lost indeed..

A wonderful collection of little vignettes that spoke eloquently of an age of decomposed innocence - an we do well to stitch up the eyes of the young...

There is so much here to consume. To hold these weights beneath shadow of knowledge in the exaggerated branches of life, is a phenomenon only a poet could so readily accomplish. You have done splendidly poet. SUPERB!

oh....so much truth here...I have an urge to smash my computer, tear off my clothes and go out in search of a new reality...wow...the world we live in is ripe for destruction, technology and science the new forbidden tree...oh, my...what have we done?

As one stitch-eyed girl to another, "we should have never cut the strings to see what it was we thought we were missing". Oh gawd, I feel so unnaturally close to this piece. The degradation of a generation, raised by machines and machinations of the media. The things parents have to struggle with just to keep a child away from the pit they themselves have slipped into so often. And every decade the gap between past and present, Eden and Apple, becomes that much harder close. But give up I shall not. For even abandoned gardens can be saved by one hand at a time.

Clever and lovely images open this up but they are so vividly painted with your words.

now why this particular write of your many I have read should fly like the arrow true straight through all my defenses and find a target in my heart! Perhaps it is the carrier wave of compassion that brings the story along like a leaf riding on a fast stream, or the vivid images hurled in front of the reader (me!) "ready or not!" Or maybe it is the solidly anchored landmarks of my rubbed raw mindscape- the Forbidden Tree, the fruits of creation and the religiosity that underpins...paints your very own little "Shadow of Death" though Eden is hardly Gethsemane! Will we manage to maintain the innocence of youth and integrity of the culture?

Of your many perceptive and socially vocal writings this one cut the deepest

'stitching closed the eyes of a young child with black thread

to awaken the dreamer inside the dead of youth'

this is such a powerful image that it overshadows the rest of the poem, love that idea of awakening the dreamer and so many of the images in the poem. You create a tapestry of sound and vision that echos like the stars. Stunning!

Mmm juicy and rhythmic to the core, beating to a 4/4 crescendo of life

Enjoyed to the last :)

Love the way you explain each seperate situation, so calm, yet with so much passion. Such a sad poem but so very true...

My upmost compliments to the story structure in the poem. Going through those developing stages-- back to past and them a jump into present. Quite delightful. I loved how you described the roll of each age/gender. It really pulls into the idea of "God is dead" (Vines have overrun Eden).
Wonderful play.
