Slip Of Lips~

Slip Of Lips~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

If you knew

How to be a man

You would understand

That sometimes

My soul comes off

With my lipstick

When you press your fingertips against my mouth

But you always wipe it off

Without looking at the patterns

Lips are full of history

At the corners rest fables

Tiny, expressive muscles quirky with decades of movement

Fullness in berry, lush with character, vanity, temper, ripe with secrets

But you just b***h about its print

On your collar, and pluck my kisses from your jaw line

A white napkin stole my soul

And the coffee was as bitter as any other day

And I am left contemplating your cuff links on the napkin

Positioned between mulberry lips

Wondering if the lip prints will slip from your fingertips

And imprint in the leather wheel

As you back out

And journey back to the lie you share

With your wife

~ouch~ I think I stung myself with those damn last lines~ btw this is a poem focused more on nuances of language and mood presentation than personalized content~

I agree with firewoman, i was holding my breath and not even realizing it. the first stanza is freakin (i know, a writer should use real words, but sometimes explitives are warranted) amazing. and i love the way the tone slides slowly to a bit acerbic at the end. a lip print, like a fingerprint is different for every person, as you hint at, a fossil of her history. how does one treat fossils, either with reverence and wonder, or with no respect. i think we know how this one treated.

"pluck my kisses from your jaw line" - methinks those kisses should come out together with a piece of flesh from that jaw line when plucked like that...

ooo me like!! absolutely love the idea of this - and the notions - the soul stolen by the napkin - brilliant idea - little imprints of soul - ignored, discarded - and the cheeky ending haha! bravo!

ARGH! you madden me with your brilliancy ;) Thank f**k you post here, that's all I can say. This is so good, as with most of the stuff I read by you it's perfect and will hang around in my mind long after I click off the page, like a good poem should do.

I love what you've done here. Taken 'lips' and given an insight into an innermost world going round them with your lipliner words. aaah... never met a poem of yours less than brilliant.

"Oh Selene....my... but u do know how to spin those words into the most beautiful shaking and life changing poetry...this is one of my very favorite pieces of yours to date...well...aside from Mirror Mirror on the Screen (I dont think anything will ever equal the power of that piece for me and I use it as a personal declaration even still) U truly hold some magic in that pen of yours dear Lady and I feel that your soul is not just limited to reside in your lipstick but in that mighty pen you hold and use like the swords u so luv....this but my own humble observation...u never disappoint my friend your words ever residing in the hearts of your readers to change and re-arrange them from the inside out...bravo" -DannyLynne

Love the pop at the end, a very teasing and daring journey.
