Highways~

Highways~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

I beached my soul

on a dark highway

caught in the blacklights of a doe's eyes

pupils to back roads

hooves skittering across stones

animal lines blurred

between the break pedal

and the windshield

spider webbing in crystal

my necklace made of blood beads

and blue veins

on a dark highway

where I beached my soul

for a doe

who was living life

while I had wasted most of mine

worrying about

stupid things

Hoof prints in blood

a black bear with nose to air

nostrils flaring

they don't go by tragedies

they go by scent;

too bad we human things forgot all about the simplicity

of just living

Because of habitat degradation many animals who were living have had to suffer from decreased biodiversity. This poem works on two levels for me. In one, it discusses how we as humans have urbanized so many things that many animals are losing their natural habitat. On another level, it focuses on the trivial humans get caught up in. All this is juxtaposed by disquieting images that resound in your mind. You make everything clear with expert precision.

Love the interplay between deer and fractured glass... natural vs human and why should there be a separation??? This is a striking piece (please forgive the pun) and is one of my new favs.

Ah, so highways are today's theme. Ridl. Although my highways are not truly highways. But both have a somber and ominous tone. I like this one from you. A bit of a break from the depths of the surreal, to come closer to the surface, perhaps due to irritation or straight up anger.

In this line: and the windshiel(I think you meant windshield)
And in this one: my neclace made of blood beads(necklace)

This to me says pay attention to life, it passes us by fast.

Over thinking and medicating the results of overthinking will be our end. Powerful!

Oh this is a powerful poem. We have forgotten about the simplest pleasures in life, running instead after mirages and vacuous thrills. This poem is tragic and yet redemptive. A tone of confessional guilt runs through out this piece which heightens the immediacy and the potency.Loved his one.

tres bien!! i like! "too bad we human things forgot all about the simplicity of just living" - what a powerful tune you sing here it's true! now we have to prop up that just living with all kinds of crap! I don't think we'd know how to live again if we tried - the animals know! quite hte philosophical little ditty - an interesting tone behind it though - sarcastic almost at times - or fatalistic maybe hmm - highways, trailing highways! nice!

Tragic, but honest. We do worry about some of the stupidest things. vanity being one. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think we should all become cavepeople walking in togas, but it's quite silly some of the extremes we go.

It's almost as if the human race has found a way to de-evolve. Leave it to the smarted of animals to find away to allow the weekest to survive. But enough of my minor rant.

This is a bit more straightforward for you, I must admit, there seems to be a bit of annoyance behind this piece. Atleast that is the feeling I get. You subtle "get it" vibe. Still a great and enjoyable read.

Always,

Matthew
