The Sensual Underside Of Cynicism~

The Sensual Underside Of Cynicism~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

Blended on white sheets

Her paint wept through his sternum

In an array of bent feathers

‘is this love?’ he ventured

Her hollow smile bled rose petals

Captured in his palms cupped beneath her chin

To catch the hiccup of her soul

Trailing

Her message in a bottle of ink

Discarded by the typewriter ribbons

On a rainy afternoon

Dribbling its body onto a porcelain plate

Grass fed dreams above them in a painting

In which their imaginary son leapt the horizon

Past balloons

Into the eight arms of a uncertain goddess

Unfolding wings in calligraphy

Painting the sea beneath

With black diamonds

Building inverted trees of onyx beneath the waves

Birthing mermaid tales

And dreaming boys

In the core of liquid gold apples

That bobbed to the surface

Of white sheets

Where he rested his weary head

On the lotus branded with god ink

Around her breasts

‘is this love?’ he asked again

She sighed in symphony

With the soft showers of ivy exhaled from molten clouds

Their ash through the window on a fine mist

Of sparkling wine

‘no, this is not love’ she, weary with the world

Uncurled

From the diorama of another torrid human day

‘this is just another hollow day on a hollow world

where hollow us try to fill the skin of the red apple

for a moment any way we can’

He smiled at her relentless depth of cynicism

‘come up for air’ he coaxed her from her wings ‘i’ll take you for sushi’

And at the corner of her lips

A barely discernible petal curved

Into a reluctant smile

In that moment in time one would wonder if it was love because the scene was that beautiful. Maybe for him it was but for her it was still hollow a feeling I have come to know oh to well. What is love then to a woman like this? What would it look like, feel like to her?

I like the ending I feel he handled her answer well, I mean who doesn't love Sushi after all. I really enjoyed this tale, this little scene between two lovers and the hollow dream.

Oh - this leaves me breathless! Such delicious lines -
"She sighed in symphony"
"On the lotus branded with god ink" -
I love the dynamic, the sweetness set against reluctance.

one sided relationship: one is completely enamoured and the other is cautious and reluctant

Wow. Very powerful diction! :D I love it's abstract and ever changing method, and the description! Perfect :D This is very close to being my favorite poem so far on this site! Thanks for making me smile :)

This left me in awe, "Is this love?" you left us in question until the ending started to unfold. Beautiful!

This was so beautifully done. The soft caresses and gentle strokes to unfurl her while she sees the world and her clouded cynicism.

Poem after poem, you deliver gems!

He smiled at her relentless depth of cynicism

‘come up for air’ he coaxed her from her wings ‘i’ll take you for sushi’

And at the corner of her lips

A barely discernible petal curved

Into a reluctant smile

I love this simple but profound interaction!
