NeverAfters~

NeverAfters~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

I have found in the mirror

An animal

It leaps out of its own accord

I used to struggle to bury it in my blue jean pocket

Keeping straight stride toward the illusions of white brocade

And ever afters

But with each step forward

I filled in two paw prints back with ink

Drawing

Into the skin of my personal totem

Understanding in the final line drawn

That I will never jump over brooms

Or carry a candle’s flame to an altar

Nor stitch myself into a wedding gown

When my heart beats fierce with aboriginal links

And my strides are more of a stalk

So here I am admitting to every suitor

Crushed between the mantle of my bones

That yes

I am careless with the heart

And bored easily

Because my lips seek the unconventional kiss

And my moods match the brocade of a jungle

My easy tease flips a violent sweep of eyelashes

When brow to brow

My pupils dilate

And you forget what you wanted to do with me in the first place

Impatient is my animal

Spreading sinuous length in a trail of crumbled heaps behind me

Forgive me my nature

Forgive me my momentary captivation

And listen to me

When I tell you

To run

Because there’s a human in my mirror

More dangerous

Than the animal in my side

I have a yearn to be devoured after reading this. It is so easy to see inside your descriptions because you set the scene so well. From fantasy to reality you bring a piece to life. There is so much truth in the last three verses of lines; one would be smarter if they feared the human side of the kingdom rather than the common wild found in an animal's instincts...

Selene this is a Great Write!

When I read the first couple lines, I was taken aback by the sheer originality and poetry of the opening. From then on, I was drawn to this idea of an animal living within us (or beside us, or in the mirror), but that the real danger was truly the human within us. Somehow you have ways of drawing the reader into an imagery so vivid and in the end, you have a well thought out meaning behind the piece that you show to us. Such a brilliantly executed subject. Lovely job.

Yes, humans have the capacity to demolish vastly many things including People, nature. How many animals are now instinct? How much habitat degradation goes on daily? How many aesthetic, sacred places have been torn down?

The animal instincts that lies within ourselves can be used to do great things or evil things. We are just left with the capacity to understand these things do to the full scale/ development of our brains.

Moods can give us some amazing poetry as we reflect those feelings into words, great poem my friend.

These are words that many will stifle, when they describe human needs as they are far to accurate..These feelings are more crudely shown in my favorite poem of Carl Sandburg.. (from "wilderness")

" I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness" (and the wilderness will not let me go)

Attest (Selene)
"my heart beats fierce with aboriginal links"
" my strides are more of a stalk"
'my moods match the brocade of a jungle"

In reality, you are the Amazon that all men desire..but of course not for a "proper" wife
But for a short fling of fantacy.

Sandburg again:
"“There is a wolf in me . . . fangs pointed for tearing gashes . . . a red tongue for raw meat . . . and the hot lapping of blood"

Selene again:
"there’s a human in my mirror
More dangerous
Than the animal in my side"

Admiting her connection to the wilderness within, and admitting that she is more dangerous than a wolf.

Bravo ! much applause for this true to life poem.

This is one of those poems that sort of seizes you, and I love it. I like the way it's so "complete" that I feel like I know an entire story from these few lines.

I love how you described yourself so vigorously and so raw. Not everyone can be that honest and admit that their not perfect and yet know that still they seek to be loved even though they have flaws. Great Write!!!

Your message is clear within these lines..As for me this is you and I like the you you have written ... not everyone is conventional - sometimes the conventional can be boring and the kiss of one can be diamonds, later that same kiss can be coal ..
Wonderful, one of my favorites of yours..
Would rather have a daisy garden myself.
