Maybe it was a soul thing

or the fever;

night was an ocean

girl was a bridge

boy’s footprints left stains of pain

shame in stride

stripped

he climbed

her rib

went over. . . .

maybe it was the fever;

she collapsed her foundation

into mermaid scales

fairy tale

caught him by a shoe

floating

upside down

her eyes blue

her nose tip touching his nose tip

bubble

air

she stroked his hair

tried to apologize for all of humanity

but fishies came hungry

fishies above

below

girl arched

steel in her hips

boy floated down

girl stopped being a bridge

took another scar

for mankind . . . .

maybe it was a soul thing. . . .

you know how to touch the soul, bypassing brain and eyes and dive straight to where it really matters. There have been far too many kids hurt by bullies. The internet just magnifies the hurt and sometimes the result, but don't overlook the plain old ordinary verbal bully that leaves scars for life rather than death. I think there are countless more victims that have lived through their ordeal but limp along in some way for decades to come as a result. Sad both ways.
