The Waiting

The Waiting

A Poem by theselcouthaeolist

The town goes quiet
As the night falls down
The city lights might hide it
But evening stars shine around
A lady looks out
Her windowsill
Despite her mother's doubts
She knew he'll come, still
Her prince,
Ever so charming
Won her heart
From the very beginning
Since the day they met
She already loved him
Until he had left
Then, she's always been waiting
Down on her knees
She'd pray to the stars
That from him she shall here
Though he's very afar
At last her prayer
Has been heard by the gods
She thought he's forgotten her
But to her were the odds!
But, alas, this letter shall make her
Devastated and down
Her grin had fallen
Into a long frown
Tears formed in the corners
Of her hazel eyes
An invitation to a funeral
Her prince had died
On the meadow she had gone
Where the trees stood tall
She bade farewell to her prince
The man she loved of all
She left without notice
And jumped off a bridge
Hoping death would take her
To her prince, to her lover
